Dr. Chris Cavacuiti

Dr. Chris Cavacuiti has an extensive background in addiction medicine and inner city health. Before founding trueNorth Medical Centres in 2013, he worked as a staff physician at St. Michael’s Hospital, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, the Casey House Aids Hospice, and the Seaton House Homeless Shelter. His clinical research and advocacy work focuses on addiction medicine, hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS treatment and care, LGBTQ+ community, and Indigenous peoples’ health and wellness.

He is also on the teaching and research faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) at the University of Toronto. He has been certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM). He has also received his Focused Practice Designation in Addiction Medicine from the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) and his Certificate of Added Competence in Addiction Medicine from the Canadian College of Family Physicians.

Dr. Cavacuiti is an elected member of several committees including the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Publications Council and the OMA Section on Addiction Medicine.

He was the lead editor of the 2012 American Society of Addiction Medicine textbook titled Principles of Addiction Medicine: The Essentials. He is also the author of the handbooks Suboxone: A Handbook for Patients and Opioid Use Disorder: A Handbook for Families.
